Check this out. What you will see is a fascinating article from the association of hospitalists. In it, you will see the author wrestle with why NP’s/PA’s working in the hospital setting tend to be significantly less productive than their physician colleagues. You will see all kinds of explanations offered, including insufficient training, an undue (?) focus on safety with the advanced care providers, etc. The bottom line, according to this author, is that this “gap” in productivity needs to be eliminated by those managing hospital practices.
Bottom Line. Funny. Sort of. The one explanation that the author fails to ponder is that maybe, just maybe, the NP’s and PA’s take a little extra time to listen to their patients. To be empathetic.
